The Fairground Mercury
The June edition of The Fairground Mercury, the quarterly magazine of the Fairground Association of
Great Britain, has been posted to all its members. In this issue: Ian Trowell writes about the
important exhibition of fairground art held at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in 1977; Peter Wells
chronicles the history of ride-builders Howcroft’s of Hartlepool; Roger Mills recalls the days when
paraders strutted their stuff on rides as well as shows; Doug Roseaman explains how many of
Frederick Savage’s ride plans are being conserved and digitised; and there’s news of the National
Fairground & Circus Archive’s latest acquisitions. Mike Willis contributes a lengthy list of recent
machine changes, while various members have their say in the Feedback section. All this in 40 pages
of full colour!
