The Fairground Mercury

The December edition of The Fairground Mercury, the quarterly magazine of the Fairground Association of Great Britain, has been posted to all its members. This 40-page, full-colour issue includes a history of Portland Fair, once one of the last fairs of the season, and one member’s memories of working there; a pictorial farewell to Coney Beach; an article by the late Tommy Green about other showmen’s organisations that existed alongside the Guild; and Roger Mills writes about a late 19th century cleric who worked among the travelling community. Plus Mike Willis’ survey of recent machine changes, tributes to the late Arnot Muir, Doug Roseaman’s tips for modelmakers and Mark Gill’s recollections of a fairground artist who helped create an iconic LP sleeve.
